The label art point was founded in Moscow in 1993. Since 1999, under the direction of the designer Lena Kvadrat, two collections per year have been produced and distributed through its own shop in Vienna along with international expositions and distributors throughout Europe and Japan.
Lena Kvadrat understands fashion as a means of communication and as a symbolic language which uses both explicit and encoded signals. She has lived and worked for many years in Vienna and Moscow, traversing both real and virtual borders. Lena Kvadrat has also come to be known beyond the domain of fashion through her many presentations and projects in collaboration with people from other creative fields and institutions. Usually these projects take on the form of performances which along with the presentation of the collections serve to reflect on the cultural and social relevance of fashion in general.
Here it is primarily a question of creating an awareness of the fact that clothing and accessories are subjected to differing social codes, transmitting a symbolism which can then be decoded, and if possible, transformed. Every collection is dedicated to developing a certain, often general or abstract topic and then with respect to this topic is situated within the history and actuality of fashion design. Topics from the past years have been the_fold as a form-generating element considered from the perspective of the natural history of the planet, clothing and philosophy, or prototypes understood as the pursuit of the ideal and the future forms of the 21st century. The current collection 2010 is dedicated to the notion of assembling.
